Katherine Alteneder

With extensive experience in designing and implementing access-to-justice initiatives across legal aid, the courts, and private practice, Katherine has consistently focused on developing common-sense, consumer-oriented solutions. Her work emphasizes the use of geospatial data and collaborative learning among diverse stakeholders. An early member of the Self-Represented Litigation Network (SRLN), Katherine led the organization from August 2013 to December 2022 and now serves as Director Emerita. During her tenure, she established the first geospatial analytics and mapping group in the civil justice field and consulted on more than 30 projects nationwide for courts, legal aid organizations, bar foundations, and access-to-justice commissions. Katherine is particularly dedicated to building inclusive legal delivery systems, with a strong focus on developing practical strategies for rural and vulnerable populations. She is passionate about creating community-based legal assistance environments that enhance accessibility. In addition to serving on numerous advisory boards, Katherine is a Non-Resident Senior Fellow at the Georgetown Institute for Technology Law and Policy. She now works as an independent consultant, advancing civil justice reform. In 2018, she received the Distinguished Service Award from the National Center for State Courts. She especially enjoys mentoring those pursuing careers in access to justice and public interest law. Katherine, a graduate of Northwestern University and Seattle University School of Law, resides in Delaware.
